The event began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Feng Ye, Chair of the IEEE YP Victoria Section Affinity Group, who emphasized the importance of communicating complex ideas in clear and accessible ways. Following the introduction, 10 participants delivered concise and engaging presentations, each limited to three minutes and supported by up to ten slides. Their talks showcased a wide range of innovative research topics and demonstrated impressive communication skills.
The competition was evaluated by two invited judges: Prof. Jianping Pan (University of Victoria) and Dr. Anshul Goyal (Vice-Chair of IEEE YP Victoria Section). Their expertise from both academia and industry ensured a fair and insightful assessment of the presentations. After all the presentations concluded, participants and audience members enjoyed a short tea break while the judges finalized their scores.
The results were then announced: Dr. Wenjun Yang received the First Prize, Soumya Panda received the Second Prize, and Zahra Jahanshahi received the Third Prize.
The event was warmly received by both participants and attendees, offering not only a platform for young researchers to showcase their work but also an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate academic excellence. IEEE YP Victoria extends its gratitude to the judges, participants, and volunteers who made the event possible, and looks forward to continuing to organize activities that support young professionals and foster collaboration within the research community.
