Dr.  Fatima Hussain: Emerging Cyber Security Threats and Current State of Art

Abstract: Speculating on the future of cybersecurity is inherently challenging. Cyber threat landscape is ever evolving with new attacks and so are the techniques and tools for the defense. Due to the concept of global cyber-physical continuum and digitization of data and channels, organizations are relying more on virtualization, cloud services, Gen AI and software as a service, to name a few. Insider threats, SaaS vulnerabilities, Third-Party exposure risks, Gen AI adversarial affects have gained significant ground during the last decade. Defending against cyber threats is a critical and ongoing process that requires an informed, intelligent, proactive, and multifaceted approach. It is worth mentioning that the advancement in technology is a double-edged sword where on one hand, it helps the organizations to focus on sophisticated security solutions but on the other hand it also favors the cyber attackers. Speaker Bio: Dr. Fatima Hussain is a Senior Member of IEEE with a diverse technical and professional background. She is an IEEE ComSoc distinguished speaker and has a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, specializing in secure wireless communications. Dozens of industrial patents, and transaction/conference papers are on her credit. She is editor of IEEE Newsletter Toronto Section from the last 8 years and associate editor of many prestigious IEEE journals, such as IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorial etc. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor and Research Supervisor at Toronto Metropolitan University. Dr Hussain has a proven track record of driving research initiatives, designing and deploying proof-of-concept pilots to solve business problems, and developing end-to-end solutions by leveraging cutting-edge technology. Her areas of current research include machine learning and network security, user behaviour analysis, SaaS security and governance, and explainable and ethical artificial intelligence, and has delivered several invited talks on these <a href="http://topics.

Currently she holds the position of Principal SaaS Security Architect at the Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto, Canada. She is responsible for SaaS governance and Security architecture partnering closely with stakeholders in Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Cloud, Risk, and Internal & External Delivery teams to enable effective SaaS governance and architecture best practices and sound design principles across the entire SaaS lifecycle. Prior to this role, Fatima managed the User Behaviour Analytics and Insider Threat team in Global Cyber Security (GCS) in RBC, Toronto Canada. She led the development and automation of AI models for applications to detect and remedy data loss from insider threats.
