Measuring Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Networks

Room: EIT 4152, Bldg: Centre for Environmental &. Information Technology, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Starlink and alike have attracted a lot of attention recently, however, the inner working of these low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite networks is still largely unknown. This talk presents an ongoing measurement campaign focusing on Starlink and OneWeb, including their satellite access networks, gateway and point-of-presence structures, and backbone and Internet connections, revealing insights applicable to other LEO satellite providers. It also highlights the challengesand research opportunities of the integrated space-air-ground-aqua network envisioned by 6G mobile communication systems and calls for a concerted community effort from practical and experimentation <a href="http://aspects.Speaker(s):" target="_blank" title="aspects.Speaker(s):">aspects.Speaker(s): Jianping, Room: EIT 4152, Bldg: Centre for Environmental &. Lunch & Learn with MDA Space: Career Insights from Matthew Zieleman

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Join UBC IEEE for a Lunch & Learn with Matthew Zieleman, an Embedded Software and Electrical Engineer at MDA Space and UBC Engineering Physics alumnus. Matthew will share his career journey across multiple industries (from automotive and power systems to energy, medical robotics, and now space) highlighting the lessons he learned at each stage and what he wishes he had known as an undergraduate. In the second half of the talk, he’ll discuss his current work on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites at MDA Space and share insights into the space industry. This is a great opportunity to hear honest career advice, learn about real-world engineering paths, and ask questions about working in space and advanced technology <a href="http://sectors.Data" target="_blank" title="sectors.Data">sectors.Data and Time: February 13, 2:00–3:00 PMLocation: MCLD 3038Please register in advance so we can plan <a href="http://accordingly.Vancouver" target="_blank" title="accordingly.Vancouver">accordingly.Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
