This keynote provides a comprehensive overview of major scientific and technological advances achieved over more than a decade of collaboration between Renault/Ampere and Centrale Nantes–LS2N within an industrial research chair dedicated to electric <a href="http://mobility.The" target="_blank" title="mobility.The">mobility.The research activities presented cover three main interconnected domains in electric mobility systems. The first domain focuses on AC motorand converter control for EV/HEV applications, including sensorless control strategies for AC machines with emphasis on position estimation and torque monitoring, as well as advanced control of DC–AC power converters. The second domain addresses energy management and control strategies for EV/HEV charging and discharging systems. This includes global energy management approaches and DC bus regulation techniques for EV/HEV chargers, and automated generation of VHDL code for embedded control implementation. The third domain concerns the control and optimization of EV/HEV powertrains, including the control of batteryless series hybrid electric vehicles and energy management strategies for electric vehicles powered by fuel cell–supercapacitor hybrid systems. Title: Synchronization Mechanisms in Modern Wireless NetworksAbstract: Synchronization is one of the most fundamental and technically challenging aspects of any cellular communication system. Accurate timing and frequency synchronization are essential for establishing and maintaining reliable communication between user equipment and the network, enabling efficient spectrum utilization, low latency, and robust system performance. This presentation provides an overview of synchronization principles in modern cellular networks and explains their critical role throughout the communication process. It introduces the synchronization framework used in contemporary wireless systems and discusses how synchronization supports key procedures such as cell search, initial access, system information acquisition, and connection establishment. The presentation also highlights the importance of synchronization in advanced network capabilities, including multi-antenna transmission, coordinated communication, and time-sensitive services. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the synchronization mechanisms that enable efficient, reliable, and high-performance operation in today's cellular <a href="http://networks.Bio:" target="_blank" title="networks.Bio:">networks.Bio: Dr. Salari earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2007. The energy sector, especially electric power systems, is fundamental to modern society. and is poised to play an increasingly vital role in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. With approximately 70% of greenhouse gas emissions stemming from energy used by industrial, commercial, institutional, residential, and transportation sectors, decarbonizing their energy supply is essential. Elevating electrification - by shifting from fossil fuels to electricity - emerges as a key strategy, exemplified by electric vehicles, energy-efficient buildings powered by renewables, and industrial process <a href="http://changes.To" target="_blank" title="changes.To">changes.To meet climate goals, the share of electricity in final energy consumption must rise from 20-25% today to 50-60% by 2050. This transition requires integrating large-scale variable renewable energy sources into resilient grids, plus fundamentally transforming system design, planning, and operation. The short timeline presents significant challenges demanding rapid investments, increased intelligence, and enhanced flexibility. The role of metrology for enhancing observability with sufficient accuracy at the distribution grid and coordination between Transmission and Distribution System Operators (TSO/DSO) will be highlighted. This is a critical aspect of the intensified electrification and maintaining the system resilience. The concept of seamlessly delivering power within the human body through implanted coils and antennas has opened a new frontier in healthcare, enabling the development of innovative medical devices and <a href="http://systems.Some" target="_blank" title="systems.Some">systems.Some applications of implanted wireless power transfer technology include implantable medical sensors, monitoring devices, drug delivery systems, and neurostimulators. The implanted coils and antennas ensure these medical devices function optimally without the need for invasive procedures for battery replacement or <a href="http://recharging.When" target="_blank" title="recharging.When">recharging.When it comes to wireless power transfer, there are two major methods used in implanted devices. One is magnetic field coupling, which uses coils, and the second method involves electromagnetic waves transferred through antennas. The development of these components demands careful consideration of factors such as miniaturization, biocompatibility, and efficient power transfer over varying distances and orientations within the human body. Magnetic coupling offers high power transfer efficiency but is limited by the depth at which power can be effectively transferred. Beyond a certain depth, efficiency drops significantly. Radiative power transfer via electromagnetic waves can transfer power over larger distances, but its efficiency may become very <a href="http://low.An" target="_blank" title="low.An">low.An interesting research topic is how to take advantage of both methods to extend the range of power transfer while optimizing power transfer efficiency. Another primary focus in this field is the development of safe and efficient systems that comply with safety regulations. Particularly, the regulated levels of exposure in terms of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) are critical considerations in the design and implementation of these <a href="http://technologies.To" target="_blank" title="technologies.To">technologies.To improve power transfer efficiency, careful modeling and simulation of these devices is essential, as well as rigorous testing in phantom and laboratory environments. This talk aims to explore some of these topics, considering the significance, challenges, and potential of wireless power transfer technology for implanted <a href="http://devices.Biography:Sima" target="_blank" title="devices.Biography:Sima">devices.Biography:Sima Noghanian is currently a Distinguished Hardware Engineer at CommScope Ruckus Networks. She was a consultant with Neuspera Medical Inc and StrokeDx. Dr. Noghanian received a Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba in 2001 and a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, which she held at the University of Waterloo. From 2002 to 2018, she served as an Electrical Engineering faculty member at the Sharif University of Technology, Iran (2002), the University of Manitoba, Canada (2003–2008), and the University of North Dakota, USA (2008–2018). She also served as the Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of North Dakota (2014–2016). She was an Electromagnetic Application Engineer with PADT Inc. (2019–2020) and a Principal Antenna Design Engineer at Wafer LLC (2020–2021).Dr. Noghanian is a senior member of IEEE, a fellow of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES), and a senior member of URSI Commissions B and K. Dr. Noghanian currently serves as the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine, IET Microwave, Antennas and Propagation, Frontiers in Antennas and Propagation, and as an area editor for the Elsevier International Journal of Electronics and Communications. Abstract: The collision of sensing and communication (S&C) in the limited spectrum and proliferation of intelligent wireless devices sparks the promising development of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technologies. This presentation introduces the development of Tsinghua University’s Nuclear Heating Reactor (NHR) technology, focusing on the advanced NHR200-II design. The reactor features full-power natural circulation, an integral primary system, and fully passive safety systems, including decay heat removal and boron injection, enabling long-term safe operation without operator intervention. With simplified system design and enhanced inherent safety, NHR200-II provides a reliable and low-carbon energy solution. Its applications include industrial steam supply, seawater desalination, district heating and cooling, and integrated energy systems for data centers. Flexible steam compression technologies enable adaptation to diverse industrial demands. Power systems around the world are being modernized to address environmental concerns, reduce costs, and guarantee access to electricity all the time. Four main criteria for this upgrade are efficiency, reliability, resiliency and sustainability. Recent advances in various technologies are the key enablers for this modernization. Nevertheless, such physical systems are becoming overwhelmingly large scale and stochastic with highly complex dynamics, coupled with millions of human interactions. The design and operation of these systems needs major innovations in computational techniques. In this talk, we first discuss some major challenges behind the modernization of power grids and explain why addressing them involves many different <a href="http://fields.Then" target="_blank" title="fields.Then">fields.Then, we focus on three topics of optimization, learning, and control for power systems, which all need major revolutions in computational techniques. We study how recent advances in AI and machine learning can assist with addressing some of these challenges.
